Soy Allergen List

As you may have understood from my previous posts, Aqila has food allergy issues.
He is much better now, he is no longer allergic to cow's milk, but he still is highly allergic to peanut and eggs, fish/ shellfish and corn, on top of dustmites.

Couple of months ago, we challenged him with soy milk, and the result was wonderful. So he now can safely drink this type of milk without any reaction. But prior to the challenge test, of course...Aqila had to avoid all type of food that contain / may contain soy allergen.

For those of you who are allergic / sensitive to soy, the list below show you some of the food you may need to avoid. The long list may look daunting to you, but please bear in mind that most of the time, people are only allergic to certain type of beans (legume family). Take Aqila for example, he is okay with soy bean now, but not to red bean/ adzuki bean, mung bean. The MSG and preservatives are absolute no no to him too. Lecithin...Aqila can tolerate this, when the amount is not too significant, etc...etc...

The good news is that his reaction is not too severe...some rashes and his would usually eczema flares up, although it could get quite annoying at night (as he would be restless and have fitfull sleep, and his parents would sleep less, therefore they would wake up feeling terribly tired and cranky the next morning).

Best way to determine whether you are allergic to the food in the list is to try to consume them one by one and see/check the reaction. Sorry....there is no shortcut I am afraid. This is what i've been doing / experimenting with Aqila.

Oh yes...I kinda forgot where I downloaded the list from, it was definitely one of the food allergy support network website. I'll update you with the link, if I am able to check. Anyway...hope the list would help you in limiting the allergy reaction...(and the unecessary fuss that come with the it!!!)

Soybeans are legumes. Other foods in the legume family include navy beans, kidney beans, string beans, black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas (garbanzo or chichi beans), lentils, carob, licorice, and peanuts.

Many people are allergic to more than one legume. Other members of the Legume FamilyAlfalfa (sprouts), Acacia (gum), Carob (chocolate substitute), Cassia or senna (in laxatives, curry, cinnamon), Fenugreek (used in curries, cinnamon, primary flavoring in imitation maple syrup)Lentils, Masur bean, Licorice, Green pea, Purple-hull pea, Peanut Senna or cassia (in laxatives and Epsom salts), Soybean Tamarind Tragacanth (gum)

Wah...Saya bener2 salut dg mbak Dyah ini..Begitu telatennya..Kejadian alergi konon meningkat karena paparan terhadap infeksi turun.Akibatnya tubuh tidak terbiasa dg "serangan" dari luar.Anak2 yg dibesarkan di daerah pertanian cenderung kebal alergi.Jadi,kotor itu tak selamanya jelek lho mbak..
Susu kedelai memang menjadi pilihan pertama saat ini (untuk penderita alergi).Kandungan proteinnya paling tidak menyebabkan alergi.Selain itu jg bergizi tinggi,sangat baik untuk anak yg sedang dalam masa pertumbuhan.
Perbanyak makan sayur dan buah,karena mengandung antioksidan.Kurangi penggunaan antibiotik bila tidak benar2 perlu.Karena penggunaan antibiotika berlebihan akan mengganggu bakteri usus yg sebenarnya mencegah alergi.
Tetapi memang yg paling penting adalah mencegah pencetusnya.
Semoga Aqila sehat selalu...Tak doakan semoga ntar jadi profesor di bidang alergi dan imunologi dah... ^_^

Ndri...iya baca artikel juga bilangnya begitu. Kalo hidup terlalu bersih...jadinya gak tahan kena yg jorok2 dikit, hehehe.

Alhamdulillah krn reaksi sudah byk berkurang (kadar keparahannya), jadi udah jarang dikasi obat.
